Welcome to the Chemistry 52 unknown data base.
This is an experimental product. It is not meant to replace the reference tables in your laboratory manual.

  1. Enter the melting point and boiling point ranges for the unknown. If you have not measured an item leave it blank.
  2. Choose how you would like to treat data not being in the database. Data may be missing for a variety of reasons: a derivative cannot be prepared, the measurement may simply not have been published yet, etc.
  3. Check the boxes for the classes of compounds you wish to search. Enter melting point ranges for derivatives by clicking on the name of the class of compound.
  4. Obtain matching compounds by clicking Submit Query button. Compounds matching all the parameters you have entered will be presented.
  5. Use Reset button only if you wish to clear all data you have entered.
After tentatively identifying an unknown you might want to get further information about it form the Merck Index or a site such as chemfinder.
